“Being on the ground and just living – this case is so important that everything else will come by itself. Feeling that you live is enough joy.” Henry David Thoreau
Charity photography exhibition “Cuba. Life is a joy” is due to open at the Synthesis coffee- gallery in Sofia. The photographs are available to view from 5th September, but the official opening is scheduled for Friday 14th September. Visitors will be greeted by Cuban dancing and music from 7pm.
Life is a joy. No matter what you do. It is a dance with a daiquiri, a walk along Malekona, the steep streets of Santiago de Cuba, a hot kiss from Sinfuegos. Behind each door waits a surprise; a smile, salsa or a glass of Cuba Libre.
The exhibition presents work by Bulgarian photographer Svetoslav Kalchev. The subject of his photographs are his travels through the “Island of Freedom” where he captured images of everyday life. Having crossed the Cuba Pinyar Del Rio, where the finest cigars in the world are made, he went down to Baracoa, the first colonial settlement founded by the Spaniards in 1511.
Old striped walls, huge pink Cadillacs, and endless blue-green sea, laughing and carefree people who enjoy the simple things in life. All this inspired him to pass on the message to the visitors of his exhibition: Cuba is a joy.
The event is entirely for charity. Money raised from sold photographs will be donated to the cause of “Children with hematologic diseases” and towards the construction of a recreation centre for children living around Sofia.
